This piece is utterly mesmerising. A rare meeting of ancient wood and luminous opal, it captures a moment in Earth’s history preserved for around 20 million years.

This extraordinary Opalized Petrified Wood, or wood opal, began life in an ancient Indonesian forest during the Miocene era. Over millions of years, the original wood was gradually replaced by silica-rich opal, preserving its natural grain, cellular structure and intricate patterns.

The result is wonderfully unexpected: the character of ancient wood with the luminous beauty of opal, including captivating blue hues and organic textures.
