Discovered in 1974 by Dominican Miguel Méndez and Peace Corps volunteer Norman Rilling along the Barahona coast, the stone’s name elegantly combines “Larissa,” Méndez’s daughter, with “Mar,” the Spanish word for sea, evoking its maritime origins.

The deposits of Larimar remain largely uncharted, underscoring the exclusivity and fleeting availability of this precious stone.
